12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Segment: My Fresh Food Truck does have segments but they all can go into one large segment, food. Since there is a narrow rev, I have a long depth. In the food category I have bowls, veggie bowls, protein bowls, bars, smoothies, shakes, and other drinks. I am going to focus specifically on the food segment of my future food truck.

Three people: Ashley, Chris, and Emma all like to eat healthy and have told me after a while of interviewing and asking questions that they would love to have more healthy food options available around them.

Awareness: I asked my interviewees the following questions: Are there certain times of the day you want healthy food fast and feel that you do not have it? They all said that they wanted healthy food for lunch. In what kind of situations do you find yourself craving healthy food, but not know where to get it? Once again, all my interviewees said lunchtime they want it and they find themselves in these situations during work hours or busy days. How do you feel about the kind of food you eat? The kind of food they eat, they always want to be healthy.

Information Search/Findings: When the people I interviewed become aware of their need, the first thing they do to find a solution to their problem is try to find the healthiest restaurant, but then do not want to sit down at a restaurant, so they most likely cook at home. They look for close restaurant or go to a grocery store for sources of information. When searching is Google, all my interviewed searched the word healthy and food. They want somewhere fast and Google is not giving them that. They also speak to friends about how cool it would be to have a fast healthy food place in their area of living.

Conclusion: This segment, being the only segment my business has so far, is essential to the business. There is a lot of talk going around in Florida about healthy food and how it is becoming more and more popular. My interviewees are people that have this unmet need because they want healthy food and eat healthy food, but do not always know where to find it. They all agree that there is a plethora of unhealthy food places that are quick, but they think the world is lacking in healthy ones. Overall, my interviewees prove that my unmet need does exist and their information allows me to know that during lunch time and busy hours are when this food truck can come most in handy for them.

  1. Hi Amanda! Your buyer behavior analysis was interesting --- I wouldn’t have thought that lunch would be the most popular choice for people who are interested in being healthier since lunch is an easy meal to pack the night before. I would have assumed dinner would be the meal most people would need a quick, healthy option because so many people are tired and hungry after work and likely don’t feel like cooking so they instead grab some unhealthy fast food. I think the trend of healthy eating is definitely becoming more popular as people realize how big of an impact the food they eat has on their health.

  2. Hi Amanda,
Reading about your buy behavior was informative! You see that there is a need, and I agree with those you interviewed. I feel like I always want a healthy lunch too and I have no where to find one except Panera Bread, but even then it can be difficult if there is not one near you. I also wouldn't want salad all the time as a lunch item that is healthy. I think the interviews helped you narrow down what else is needed for your idea. It can help figure out what you should serve and what meals would be healthy and can be served fast.

  3. Hi Amanda,

I enjoyed reading your analysis! It made sense to me that lunch would be the preferred meal that these individuals had in mind when thinking of when they would have trouble finding a healthy alternative. This is when they're usually out and about (many people don't have time to pack a lunch). I know that that's usually the meal that I end up spending on. Nice, looking forward to hearing more about this idea!
