7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

Opportunity: Today’s generation is concerned about what they are eating and how good it really is for them, yet they still want food that is at their fingertips fast. A healthy food truck is an opportunity that can grow immensely with the correct marketing.

Who: Health conscious people in the working society, specifically millennials.

What: People are unable to get the healthy food and healthy ingredients they want fast and efficiently.

Why: Fast food is only unhealthy. For example, McDonalds, KFC, Steak & Shake are all unhealthy places delivering fast food. Millennials are working long days and want food to be something that they can acquire fast and something that is healthy with a great taste.

Testing the who: Food is something that everyone needs to survive. Food that is fast and healthy will be addicting to many people. Healthy food actually makes people feel better and people that are not even health conscious will continue to come back and eat this food. Everyone in my current “who” shares the need, but other people that are not health conscious in society share the need as well.

Testing the what: Do all people want to eat healthy? No, because it is more expensive and some people do not mind what they put in their bodies. The healthy food truck also must go in special populated locations. Somewhere like New York City or Tampa would be good places because people are constantly on the go, busy with work, and other things.

Testing the why: People have recently begun caring what is in the food they eat, but not all people. Some people are perfectly satisfied with eating their unhealthy fast food, while others care a lot about their health. Some health conscious people prefer cooking for themselves, but when they are very busy, grabbing healthy food prepared for them on the go is a great alternative.

Summary of Interviews: I interviewed two of my older friends who work in Tampa, two of my friends from New York City, and one health conscious Gainesville resident. After interviewing them, I learned that fast healthy food is something that they are all very interested in. Two of the five I interviewed admitted to not eating that healthy due to busy schedules. I asked them what they could use to make them eat healthier and they said they wanted healthy food to be easier to achieve and taste good. These are two things that the healthy food truck just so happens to offer. The three others I interviewed agreed to be pretty health conscious and said that they mainly cook their food at home with eating out minimally. After discussing a little further, I learned that they would love to have healthy food at their fingertips and would be very interested in having a healthy food truck. Especially the people I interviewed that lived in large cities wanted to have more fast healthy food options. They said that healthy food could taste good as long as you make it right and I completely agreed with them. Overall, I learned that this opportunity does exist and that it can be targeting at anyone in society. People that are not even health conscious would love to feel good and eat healthy fast food.

  1. Hi Amanda,
I love this idea so much. I am a very food/health conscious person, and this idea is so appealing to me. I support it 100 percent. I know many people would get behind this opportunity, but the thing is making it affordable for both the consumer, but the producer as well. Big cities would be a great target, but it is important (I think) to have fast healthy food in populated areas as well. This reminds me of Grill Fresh and Vale in Gainesville.

  2. Hey Amanda!

I love food trucks so you definitely sold me the minute that was said. I have semi good eating habits because I work very late till about 1 A.M. so I'm stuck with getting Wendy's most of the time. I love healthy food and just how great of a comfort food veggies can be. I'd totally be into your food truck. I hope the food truck can be open til' late so it'll benefit late night working students! This is genius :)

  3. Hey Amanda!
Your idea interested me a lot, especially because mine is in the best interest of health as well. With the recent health craze in full swing, your idea is one that if presented correctly could easily balloon into a succesful franchise. Food trucks oriented around healthy foods and other conscious options such as shakes or juices are an interesting commodity, also coupled with the authentic urban/ethnic feel that your audence would want to feed off of. I like the idea, and hope to see it develop further!

  4. Hi Amanda! Wow, I think this is an awesome idea! I identify with your target market as I am a young person who values convenience but also strives to make healthy choices. I think a healthy food truck is an awesome idea because healthy eating is definitely becoming more and more popular. Since more people are becoming health conscious and trying to make good choices, a truck offer nutritious bites has great potential for success.

  5. Hello, Amanda,
I read your assignment. I think you found a good opportunity because everybody has to eat every day and want to be healthy. The healthy food truck is good for the people who want to eat good, healthy, and testy food every day; especially, the millennials that they want fast and convenient with healthy ingredients and great taste food, too. You got a good point.

  6. Amanda,
I think this is a really great idea to pursue and develop; healthy eating and food education will always be a hot topic, especially now as people are becoming more and more aware of what they are putting into their bodies. I think that this would also ensure a steady and wide target market for you. This is great!
